Col Clinton O’Neill was commissioned in the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) having previously served in the Armed Forces of Malta for a period of two years with the Air Traffic Services as a Assistant Air Traffic Controller and with Air Squadron as a Sergeant Pilot. During the span of his carrier Col O’Neill attended to various military schools in Italy and in America and staff training courses. As a pilot he attended multiple courses both civilian and military, enabling him to qualify on all fixed wing aircraft. Besides piloting aircraft he attended courses and attained specialised qualifications in Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination and Planning techniques, Maritime Law and as an Intel analyst.
Throughout his carrier Col O’Neill has led various projects, the most prominent a €33 million investment over 7 years for the procurement of three fixed wing maritime patrol aircraft equipped for maritime border patrolling . Other projects included R&D projects and EU projects on integrated border management.
As one of the senior officers he represents the AFM on different fora both local and at International level.
Col O’Neill has now been serving the Armed Forces for 25 years.
